On the occasion of the World Rivers Day, the ZDF will air a documentary about the Balkan Rivers and the dam craze that puts them at risk on Sunday, September 25 at 16:30. This episode of the ZDF “planet e” series will depict the beauty of these rivers as well as the opposition against the imminent river regulations and damming.

Balkan Rivers Days VIDEO now available!

Between September 24th and 27th, Belgrade became the center of European river conservationists and dam opponents. From September, 120 people from 18 countries discussed how to stop the dam tsunami in the Balkans and in other regions in Europe. Now the official video of the event is available. Ulrich Eichelmann (Riverwatch) takes you to the Bence River - a tributary of the Vjosa and one of the most beautiful and ecologically most valuable rivers in Albania. However, the river is threatened by the construction of a hydropower plant: 95% of its water is to be diverted into pipelines in order to generate electricity. Within the context of the campaign, we are trying to protect this river amongst many others.
